Keep your Lens account secure by enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). 2FA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring two forms of verification when you log in: your password and a temporary code. Even if someone obtains your password, they won’t be able to access your account without also having access to your second factor. We strongly recommend enabling 2FA for all Lens accounts, especially if you manage shared projects, collaborate with teams, or store sensitive research data.
What Is Two-Factor Authentication?
When you log in with only a password, your account security depends entirely on keeping that password secret. Two-Factor Authentication changes this by requiring a second piece of evidence — something only you have access to in real time. This combination means a stolen or guessed password alone is never enough to break into your account.
With 2FA enabled, logging in requires:
- Your password — something you know
- A verification code — something you have (generated by an app or sent to your email)
Choosing Your 2FA Method
The Lens supports two methods:
- Authenticator App (Recommended)
An authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator) generates a new 6-digit code every 30 seconds directly on your device. This method works offline and is more resistant to phishing than email-based codes. - Email
A verification code is sent to your registered email address each time you log in. This is a simpler setup but relies on your email account being secure and accessible.
How to Enable 2FA

Step 1 — Open Account Settings
Log into your account and select Account Settings from the dropdown menu.
Step 2 — Turn On 2FA
In Account Settings, scroll to the Security section. Locate Two-Factor Authentication and click Enable.
Step 3 — Choose Your Method
Select either Authenticator App (recommended) or Email. If you choose an authenticator app and don’t have one installed, download one from your device’s app store before proceeding.
Step 4 — Scan and Link (Authenticator App Only)
A QR code will appear on screen. Open your authenticator app, tap the option to add a new account, and scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, users may be asked to enter a setup or secret key in their authenticator app. The app will immediately begin generating 6-digit codes for your Lens account.
Step 5 — Enter the Verification Code
Type the current 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app (or the code sent to your email) into the verification field and click Confirm. This step verifies that the link between your account and your second factor is working correctly.
Logging In With 2FA

Once 2FA is active, your login flow will change slightly:
- Enter your email and password as usual.
- When prompted, open your authenticator app (or check your email) and enter the current 6-digit code. Codes from an authenticator app expire every 30 seconds — if a code stops working, simply wait for the next one to appear.
- Click Verify to complete the login.
Please Note: When using the “Keep me signed in” feature on the login panel, there is a 14 days pause on your 2FA.
Managing and Disabling 2FA
To change your 2FA method or turn it off, return to Account Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication. You will be asked to verify your identity before making any changes. If you are locked out of your account and cannot access your second factor, use one of your saved recovery codes on the login screen, or contact Lens Support for assistance.
